checking out simpleology

I have used mark joyner's simple-ology and was pretty pleased with the results, now he has put something together on blogging.

I'm evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they're letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I'll let you know what I think once I've had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it's still free.

ammended

that was supposed to read that the video was a 'total goof' not a 'total good.'
results were good; content was goof.
does anyone check out quality content much, or is the A.D.D. mindset so prevalent that it has to be near instant gratification?
I wonder how many people watched that video long enough to get the point that was being made?

sometimes the punctuation makes the sentence.

Youtube

so I posted a video on youtube two days ago. This is nothing new. I have posted around 24 videos so far. This one was different. First it went under my 'goofy account' which is for me screwing around with comedy and oddball ideas. So I posted a video. my most successful one (as far as views go) was posted six weeks ago and now has about 300 views. It is on the evil of drug ads on tv.

the new one has been up for two days, is a total good and now has over 63,000 views. I'm sort of embarrassed and proud. It is supposed to be a tutorial on how to create a 'watched' video. the ideas worked better than I ever expected.

warning this is distasteful sort of. you'll know which one to look at

Alien Hand

How many times have you been driving somewhere and suddenly you realize that you have arrived, yet you can’t recall passing familiar landmarks or, to be honest, you don’t remember anything of the journey? If you are like most people this phenomenon happens on a regular basis, actually much more often than you even realize. Have you ever been at work and looked at the clock and realized it was quitting time, and thought, ‘Where did the day do?”

Perhaps you should be wondering, “Where did my mind go?” This is not a rhetorical question. When we are performing tasks that require little thought, or repetitive actions, our attention is not required. This may be a “no-brainer” and even that expression tells a tale.

There is a psychological condition called the ‘alien hand’ where a person loses control of a portion of their body. It is called the alien hand because the most common part is an arm and the hand performs actions not consciously directed by the brain. My thought is that when you are driving or doing mundane tasks, the same functional section of your brain is controlling your entire body. It’s not an ‘alien’ brain; it is your sub-brain or subconscious thoughts.

I find this hard to write. I have become distracted twice thus far as I am putting these thoughts to paper. I began playing solitaire at the end of the last paragraph. Why? Could there be something of a battle between my conscious and sub-conscious minds? It is all me, isn’t it?

If I can regain the time that I am losing on a regular basis to unconscious actions, I could in effect increase my life span. Those days that seemed to drag by in the past were perhaps days that I was more aware of my surroundings. In mundane situations this might not be such a bad thing, but if I want to make the most of my day and use my time and mind to the fullest extent, I need to stay focused. I need to live ‘in the now’ as Eckhart Tolle expresses it. Funny how the science and the metaphysical often collide.

I run long distance occasionally. Even when I take my regular runs I find myself in a meditative state during the run. If one would concentrate on each movement of each leg, I think I would go mad. In many instances motor control, along with other functions, are most efficiently handled by the subconscious mind. Could you imagine thinking about each sound you utter and the control it takes to shape your vocal cords or each stroke as you type a message? You’d probably never finish a sentence in either medium if you had to consciously control every action.

I am not advocating taking conscious control of all the actions of your life. We certainly cannot begin regulating our hearts or our breath. It would simply be overwhelming. The direction I wish to go with this is; know where you are. What does that mean?

As you are driving down the road, where does your conscious mind go? It is not used to regulate the accelerator or to negotiate simple driving skills. But where does your mind go and can you keep track of it? As your mind wanders, try to keep tabs on where it is and what thoughts consume it. You may think this an odd exercise, but I think that only by working this mental muscle will we begin to gain a better understanding of ourselves and to move on to a higher plane of existence.

Does your mind go someplace where it works on issues that you have in your life? Does it withdraw to muse on the challenges you face? I have often heard that prior to going to bed, one should think about a challenge they have. You can, more often than not, wake up with some sort of solution to that challenge. It is said that you are handing your problem to your subconscious mind and it will fit the pieces of the puzzle together in a manner your conscious mind cannot.

But where is your conscious mind during that whole process? I would propose that instead of your sub-conscious mind working on that issue as you sleep, it is, in fact your undistracted conscious mind that can tackle the challenge. The subconscious mind is powerful. It can direct your actions, literally without your thought, but, in my opinion, is more of the nuts and bolts of your daily life operation.

An Analogy

A factory runs seven days a week producing nuts and bolts for industrial customers. The production workers are the heart and lungs of the process. They work relentlessly getting paid by the hour for their labor, not, for the most part, for their thought processes; Mechanical actions producing physical results.

The supervisors and management work in a slightly different capacity. They are the reflexes; the nervous system, if you will. They are using their brains in a limited sense, keeping things flowing, putting out the occasional metaphorical fire and hopefully foreseeing upcoming issues and taking steps to prevent them. They get paid a salary for their thought processes, yet for the most part their function is akin to the workers. They are not there to cipher the best direction for the company to go. They are not there to change the size of the machining that goes on, or to arbitrarily begin new work.

The owner or the president of the company functions (hopefully) on a higher level. He or she sees the functionality of the process and also sees beyond that to the possibilities of what may come to be. When there is a slow down in the demand for the fasteners (nuts and bolts) people may be shifted to a different line, but the president only sees the results, he doesn’t facilitate the labor shift. She is seeing new potential markets and how the company can adapt and grow with the changing marketplace. The president does not get paid by the hour, but by their capacity for thought.

Now imagine the president only decides to work on Tuesday afternoons. How much do you think the company is going to grow and change while that much attention and focus is happening? Do you think that presidents take weekends off like the hourly workers do?

Even while presidents are on vacation, their minds continue to sift though the data; absorbing new information and assimilating new ideas.

Your mind is the president of your company. How much time off do you give it? How much do you slack off? Where would you be if you didn’t? I am not advocating a 24/7 dedication to work. How much further do you think you could be if you devoted even 10% more time to actively improving your life? This is not for everybody. Some people are content with their lot in life. Others are not content, but live to complain, not taking steps to better themselves. You can be a part of the small percentage who actually take steps and live in the now, making the most of the limited time we have here on Earth.

I am continuing to think about ways to stay in the now and get more out of my life.

Heroes

I got season one of Heroes on DVD yesterday and got to watch the 'never aired' pilot episode. Very cool stuff.
It got me thinking that the show really touches people because we all like to think that something is manifesting for us and that people will see that we are special.

The thing is, there is no magic that happens external. The real magic happens inside of us. There is 'special' in there and we need to let it out. So many people hold it inside - or worse yet - somehow are blind to what is special inside them. What are your gifts and talents? Does the world know about them? How can you expect to be recognised for having gifts without giving them to others?

I can hear people saying that they don't have gifts or talents, or they don't want to be recognised for them. I say you are cheating the world. You don't have to be able to fly to be special. Your outreach at the grocery store getting a pint of cream from the top shelf for the person who can't reach it, that's a gift to them. Or do you ignore them and walk by as they struggle?

Perhaps Michealangelo could have stayed in his own village, sculpting presents for his friends and family after putting in his time in the fields, but would that have served humanity? You don't have to be Michaelangelo, but if you keep your gifts to yourself you are robbing the rest of us, as surely as a bandit at a bank. Can you imagine Michaelangelo saying to his mother, "Mom, I really hate going out to the field and weeding. I wish someone would stop by and notice how great that bowl I made for you." Not a chance. He took his talent and developed it by sitting at the feet of masters until he became one himself.

That's one thing that all the great people in the world have had in common. They didn't spring forth from the womb fully developed and with legions of fans. The process began as individuals who felt drawn to something, and then they found teachers to take them to the next level.

We all find the teachers, if we are looking for them. The process may start in elementary school or sometime in your adult life, but if you are looking, the teacher will appear. I returned to college in my thirties and found encouragement. I found mentors like Bob Doyle, who I met long before he was famous and in The Secret. My education continued with Harv Ecker and Jack Canfield along with a host of others. Whether one on one, on-line, in a seminar or in a book; your education (formal and informal) molds who you are.

What you are is a gift to the world. Whether you decide to give that gift is up to you. We are all hero's. There are people in your life, past or present, who found you to be a gift and who looked upon you as a hero. It may have been someone who you helped change a tire, or someone you just posted a comment to. Those small acts can change people's lives. Everything you do impacts the people around you.

I thank all of you for being a part of my life and helping to make me the best me I can be.
I love you for that.

veteran's day (usa)

I thank all the veterans and currently active service people who have taken a step that most people in this country have not. There is a need for defense of our country and its' principals. We need to step up to the plate when there is a need. I feel like there was definitely a need to go to war and hunt down Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. He was directly related to the attack on the twin towers and Pentagon.

I will qualify this also by saying I am a veteran. I put in 13 years of duty between active Army and nine years of reserve time. My father was in the Air Force for 30 plus years, and my Uncle was career Army. We are a patriotic family. I am tired of being labeled unpatriotic by some factions, simply because I do not support Bush's war in IRAQ. I think the way he got us into that war was illegal and that he will leave office and the war will be a legacy that future presidents will be left to try and clean up.

The reasons for us being in IRAQ are totally revamped on a regular basis. Are we there because they were somehow linked to the terror attacks? Remember the 'war on terror'? Are we there because of weapons of mass destruction? Are we there because Bush wanted revenge for his father not being able to capture Sadam in the first Gulf War? Are we there because of oil? (nudge nudge) If so, why are oil prices constantly rising since we invaded IRAQ? Is it a co-incidence that the administration is completely tied in to oil companies?

There are too many factors in this war that make no sense to me. I don't want to join the conspiracy theorists. History may unravel the connections and we may someday know 'the truth' of what really is going on, but history is written by those who win wars and dominate society, so we may never know.

I hope that future deaths (murders) in Iraq are limited and that somehow we get out of there soon. I don't know how that is going to happen, and I know that the government is also at a loss for what path to take. I hope and pray that our troops come home. I support them wholeheartedly, but can't support the 'why' of the war, since there seems to be no consensus on that anyway.

Happy Veteran's day. Everyone needs to back the troops and know that that doesn't mean you back the war or the reasoning behind it. It is not anti-patriotic to be against the war. Remember the same anti-patriot cries were voiced against the founders of our country as they spoke out about what they felt was the road that we needed to travel.

Love to all,

Rob

Shows

the show last night went well. I dropped a couple lines on the "Identity Theft" but "The Lightning Train" went off perfect. The most important thing, the audience really enjoyed them. The authors were at the show and both liked the performance. I'm not sure if straight shows are for me. I much prefer musicals. I may post a clip of them at some point.

The Subconscious Mind

How do we think? Not even why do we think, but how? What controls the processes we go through to arrive at any decision we make? I thought about this (although I don't know how I thought about it), but I thought about this when I put together my program at http://www.10minuteTransformation.com The program is, more or less, shareware for your brain. you can use it and if you like it, come back and pay for it.

The reason I am blogging about the program is because I watched a ZeFrank Video

another link here in case the imbed didn't work for your system
the show with zefrank

and Ze expressed some similar thoughts toward the subconscious minnd. Our conscious mind is mostly just along for the ride with the subconscious making major decisions. Why do I have trouble memorizing lines for a play or the multiplication table (still) when my subconscious mind knows the answers? It's my conscious mind refusing to cooperate. I need to get that in line by reprogramming my subconscious to stop blocking the store of knowledge that I own.

Both my 10 minute transformation site and my http://www.SelfEsteemBuilder.net site use the same methods. One is to help you move on and accomplish your goals and dreams and the other is for making you feel better about you. Stop blocking yourself and move on to bigger and better things. Don't you deserve that? Shouldn't you start now?

Confidence

I have, in the past, talked about the importance of having confidence and high self-esteem. One of my websites, www.SelfEsteemBuilder.net is about building self-esteem. (It's free and effective)
Last night I had a prime example of what happens when you lose that confidence in yourself. I am in the final week of rehearsals for a show I am in, and we had our first rehearsal on site and in costume (longstoryshort- period piece, being played at a local museum, original plays, one acts, first time ever performed)

I had a good first show, dropped one or two lines, but overall it went well. during the second show I stumbled on some lines and lost my confidence. The next two scenes were really bad. I did not have time to reset and clear my head and all my lines ended up as a mad jumble in my head. One of the directors (under a great deal of stress) got upset and wanted to continue running the two jumbled scenes, but in my head I felt that I needed to stop rehearsals and re-cement the lines in correct order in my head.

What is more important? We need to be able to complete scenes, even if all the proper lines are lost. We need 'ad lib' skills to get back on track, so the show can go on.

It all tied back to confidence level. In my living room my confidence level is high. In performance mode, for some reason, my confidence level was shaken by a few dropped lines. The best thing to do is restore confidence and move back into the high level of performance I usually have. It's all a mental preparation thing. The confidence building tools on the self esteem site work well. They are not a 50 yard dash to confidence. It is a three week exercise that will not work for what is going on in my head today.
Today, I must know that everything I need is already inside me. I know the lines; I know my capabilities. I am a professional and I will triumph.

What tools do you need? What do you do to succeed? The path to great success involves continuous effort and ongoing education. Together we will all make it.

The Business School

I was reading Robert Kiyosaki’s book “The Business School for People Who Like Helping People” in which he talks about the tremendous learning opportunity in having your own business. Specifically he writes about having a network marketing business and how that can teach you to be a successful sales person. In order to be a success at life you have to be good at sales. Now, I know there are going to be people who will be totally turned off by that statement, and I think the only reason that would be true is because of misunderstanding.

There is a misconception about sales in general. “Oh, no, here comes the sales pitch” might be something that comes to mind. BUT everyone loves to buy things, so the logical step is that something sold them on whatever you are buying. So do you really hate sales, or do you hate being sold to? The answer is pretty obvious or people wouldn’t be buying.

How do you decide what you are going to eat? There is the taste factor, but there is also information on nutrition that enters into the picture and also commercials on TV, radio, billboards and what else? Opinions of people in your life. The opinions you share are actually a sales pitch. If people listen to you and go to a restaurant, or try a recipe that you recommended; you have sold them on that idea. So you are doing sales, but not getting any commission on it. The reason that you are comfortable doing this type of sale is exactly because you don’t feel like you are selling and the person who is ‘buying’ your opinion doesn’t think you have ulterior motives.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could earn a commission every time someone followed your suggestion for a book, movie or restaurant? On the web, this can often happen. If you have links to products you recommend, and they are affiliate links, this brings you a small commission. In life, the only way you earn money this way is if you have a sales job, or a network marketing affiliation. The difference between the two is that in a traditional sales job, you only earn money on your efforts. In a network marketing company you earn on the efforts of those you bring into the business, as well as on your own efforts. This is the power of leverage.

There is apprehension in people about network marketing, or multi-level marketing as it is sometimes known, but in truth the concept has come a long way since the concept was first introduced. Many companies once thought to be fringe are now accepted as common place. In fact, most people don’t even think of Mary Kay or Tupperware as MLM, just as household names.
What does all this have to do with your growth as a business person? The right network marketing company will provide training to teach you how to grow a business. They will teach you how to become a leader and get over your fears of approaching people. The people in your organization will help you make your business a success and will truly care about you as a person. You will learn, grow and become the person you always knew you could be, because you will have self-confidence and know you are a winner.

Robert Kiyosaki wrote that there is a winner and a loser inside of everyone and if you let your doubts, fears or low self-esteem win, the loser inside you wins.

If you force yourself to get past your inner barriers and out of your comfort zone, the winner inside you will come out.

LSD

This really doesn't fit in well with the purpose of this site, but this article was rejected because of content by my main article distributor, so I am posting it here.

LSD was synthesized for the first time in 1938 by Dr. Albert Hofmann. He found the compound growing naturally in a fungus that grew on rye. He was the first person to ‘trip’ on acid (AKA LSD.) He took the substance and rode his bicycle home from work. He reported his strange bicycle trip to his fellow scientists the next day; citing ‘breathing buildings’ and other distortions. He then began self-experimenting to a small extent. Amazingly enough he is still alive at age 101. (As of the writing of this piece 10-24-07. He’ll be 102 next January)

Moving ahead to the cold war era, both the CIA and MI6 tried using LSD in mind control experiments, and as a truth serum. All efforts failed, but the mind altering drug eventually came to the attention of Timothy Leary, a professor at Berkley and a lecturer at Harvard. Leary’s experiments took the drug to hippy culture and the Acid Test was born. Mountain Girl, former wife of Jerry Garcia of Grateful Dead fame, described the acid rock concerts as a safe place to freak freely.

LSD has been described as a mind altering drug that can cause people to have personal revelations and stimulate mental evolution. It has also been described as a drug that can permanently damage your thinking process and cause ongoing delusions and impairment. I have personally observed both and would recommend staying away from LSD. In the best circumstances it can cause a shift in your awareness and give new perspective. Unfortunately, the results seem to be totally random and acid is mostly an unknown quantity, as are most illegal laboratory created drugs.

Even in the controlled experiments done in academia and by the CIA there were many different results coming from the same batches of LSD. One famous case went to court where an Army scientist unknowingly ingested LSD and eventually either committed suicide or was pushed out of a ten story window, depending on who you believe. That event happened many weeks after the LSD trip, so it is another example of the long reaching effects of this drug. Congress eventually voted to award a six figure sum of money to the family of that individual to stop the court case. Was this a cover up of the events that led to his death or to quiet public awareness of the methods of the CIA? The answer to that seems obvious, but it is supposition. Luckily today’s US government and the covert operations undertaken are all above board and nothing like the LSD situation could ever happen today. We are so lucky to have such an honest and straight shooting man at the helm. Uh, right.

To put it quite bluntly, even in the most controlled environments run by college professors, and in experiments by the CIA, there were far reaching negative consequences for taking LSD. The questionable benefits are far outweighed by the extreme danger posed by this seemingly innocuous substance. Delusions causing total inability to reconnect with reality and suicides have both been attributed to this drug. Bottom line is that it is not worth the possible damage you can do to yourself.

Ongoing business

Working at a somewhat feverish pitch. I am trying to write at least two new articles a day, and I want to up the quantity of videos I am producing. I have one new one (posted today) on the commercials for prescription drugs.

Sometimes it really seems like you are working, but getting nothing accomplished. Other times it feels like you are really in the groove. Lately it's been a little of both. I am in the groove, but not seeing results as much as I would like. That is changing and results are now starting to pour in. As my name gets more widespread across cyberspace and real-life, people are starting to notice and are buying my books and products at an amazing rate. Awesome. I think the book will end up as a movie within the next year. I am starting to write the screenplay now.
check out the new video and let me know what you think.

It's weird how sometimes I see myself as not especially attractive, and other times I think, you know what, I look pretty good here. I find that still photos don't reflect my true appearance, but the videos do. And that's a good thing.

5048 E-mails today

well, so interesting. I signed on to my one e-mail account and they started pouring in. I was surprised when the number of new e-mails passed one hundred. I started to make a comment to Deb, but then they kept coming. one hundred, two hundred, one thousand, two thousand,

could they all be ordering my new book, Someone Else's Tomorrow? www.SomeoneElsesTomorrow.com Would it be that giant payday we know is to be?

Are people ordering 10MinuteTransformation in droves realizing the value and trying to snap it up before I increase the price? www.10minuteTransformation.com

Are there thousands of people ready to start their own business, and they all are writing from www.ProsperityModel.com ?

alas, no. Someone highjacked my e-mail account from wealthtrainingsource.com and all the e-mails are bounce backs from illegitimate e-mail addresses. So I guess that means maybe, what 10 or 20 thousand went out?? If you got one, it's not from me. I didn't include my 'regular' spam in that 5048 count, so you can add another 6 that were, oh, get a larger penis, russian woman want love, a guy in Nigeria wants to give me money and I won the lottery again (twice).
plus my normal legitimate e-mails.

anyway, life moves on and I have managed to post two videos to YouTube, one of self esteem and one on viral marketing (sort of a companion piece to the article below)
check them out...

Get in the Driver’s Seat

So many people don’t rule their own lives. How do you feel when you enter a room full of people at a party? This is usually dictated by the makeup of the group. If you are acquainted with most of them, odds are you will feel at home unless you have anxiety about groups. If you don’t know them, there are many behaviors you might adopt. Which one of these sounds like you?

a) I head for the buffet or the bar. I need something to occupy myself with while I check out the situation

b) I look for a friendly group of people and join in the conversation

c) I look for a convenient corner to hide in and observe the party

d) I calmly and coolly circulate the room looking for someone I know

For the sake of this article – it really doesn’t matter what course of action you choose, the question is what causes people to have reactions like these. What would a young child do? I am not talking about a 5- or 6-year old, I am talking about a two-year-old. Generally they would head right into things and not have a care in the world about what anyone thought. They would do whatever came into their cute little heads. Now I am not suggesting that all your cultural mores should be tossed out the window. Barging into a situation is not particularly the best way to go about things; only a toddler could get away with such behavior because they are what they are.

The real question is when do we lose the fearlessness of a child? If you move forward just a few years, the reaction would be totally different in most cases. The shy child hanging onto their mother or father’s leg, hiding behind a skirt, and the general reaction, “Oh, she’s a shy one. Isn’t that cute?” And it may be sort of cute for a youngster to be shy, but how does that serve you today? Does that shyness develop into fear? Fear of rejection, fear of the unknown, fear of what other people might think? How do we get past the fear to get to the success that we all want?

The truth of the matter is that most people never get over the shyness that they had as a child. With few exceptions, the successful people in life did not get that way by hiding in a corner. What can you do to get out of that corner and into the driver’s seat? You do not want fear ruling your life or driving your career, do you?

This is the part that is going to be hard for people. Do you want a solution, and will you actually take the steps to get out of the hole you are stuck in? If I can tell you the tools to build a better future, would you take them? What you need to do may be the opposite of what you have been doing. Have you been to networking events and actually talked to people about what you want to accomplish? Have you told people of your goals, so that you will have something to drive you? The accountability factor can really drive some folks to new highs and push them past their inhibitions.

What is your goal? “My goal is to _________.” Tell people about it. Don’t do that in a way that you are using them or trying to enlist their help financially or to join your business. Do it so they ask you, “So, what about_______ what are you doing about that? Is it going well? What steps have you taken to make that happen?” Ask them to help goad you into continuous action. And don’t ask just one person to do this. Get your mother, father, best friend, siblings, co-workers, minister, mentor, business associates involved. If you ask ten people, maybe five of them will come through for you, and that will push you to achieve what you want to achieve.

If there are naysayers in the group, drop them from this aspect of your life. You will never star in a Broadway show or write the great American novel with people dragging you down. The biggest naysayer can be you. Don’t let you stop you either. Self confidence is what successful people owe their success to.

Did you know that many years ago (over 40) a young singer opened a show for an unknown comedian at the Hungry I nightclub in San Francisco? Almost no one came to that show. The singer was a nineteen-year-old Barbra Streisand and the comedian was Woody Allen. They didn’t stop pursuing their dreams because of fear or rejection or an empty house. I’m sure they both did have fears, but their self confidence drove them to succeed. What are you doing to build your self confidence and muffle the voices of fear and doubt?

One thing you can do is to visit my website www.SelfEsteemBuilder.net and take advantage of the free workbook available there. Take an hour and go through the exercises. Another resource I have is a website called www.10MinuteTransformation.com which takes the basic premise of the power of self-talk and helps you to cement your goals into your subconscious mind. I am also available to take your e-mails and phone calls and help you to succeed.

OK, now what is your excuse? It is time to move on with your life. Get behind the wheel and start driving.

Viral Marketing

The latest thing going on in the world of marketing is viral marketing. What is Viral Marketing and how can you make it work for you?

The first thing you need to understand is that viral marketing is marketing that uses the technology of the internet to spread your message. What is your message? How do you get it out there now? And, how effective has that been for you? Are you getting a good bang for your buck?

A good example of viral marketing would be a video on YouTube. Now hopefully you know what YouTube is, if not, go do a search and find it and spend a day or two staring at things that have been created there. The site was not put together to host stupid videos put together by ten year olds, although that may be your first impression. Like many sites, it is, itself a viral campaign. The message is “come to my website and look at all the crazy videos.” No, that’s not the message. The real message is come to my website. With enough traffic, you can sell advertising on any site and make enough money to retire.

Popular websites like XANGA, MySpace, EZine, FaceBook and Blogspot are all in the same game, advertising. This is the beauty of true viral marketing. People going to the website really don’t think about the real reason for the website, they are going for the fluff that is provided as the bait. Do you get that? Even the very site you are on now is in the same game. Look around the edge of your screen; what do you see? It’s not a pretty frame to make my writing look good, it’s advertising to #1, pay for the web hosting and staff, and #2 to make the owners money. People blog willingly, and BlogSpot doesn’t have to pay for content (bait) .

Now why do writers submit articles and why do people blog and why do people submit videos? Is it for the glory and fame of being on YouTube? For some people it is…mostly for the unimaginative or the young. Other people see the opportunity to promote themselves, their products, their religion, their hobby or whatever. Now how do you promote yourself or your business? The point of it all is to get name recognition out there for yourself, your product or your website. The trick is to have the right type of viral marketing working for you.

There are two types of viral marketing; the good kind and the kind that totally sucks. If you are making a straight commercial and you put it on YouTube, it will go down in flames; verbal flames. If you make your commercial amusing, it may get some play. How many people liked those Budweiser frogs? You actually liked watching the commercial, sort of like the Superbowl. People watched for football, and then suddenly a new audience was added as the commercials became a highlight. (Some of the games were suck blowouts, that the commercials really were the best part after halftime.)

So what constitutes a sucky video? How about a guy standing on the side of a road telling you about his business? One camera (shaky) and a monologue about the benefits of toe jam juice. Or someone preaching at you to repent and join their cult? These types of videos get no play and soon are forgotten, even by the people that made them. If there is no amusement factor, don’t even upload. If you can incorporate a funny concept and blend your advertisement in a minute or two, your video may get passed around and become famous, along with your message.

Well, that is enough of my viral attempt. Now go to the side of this screen, check out my profile, visit my websites and buy my products.

The Next Level

yesterday Deb and I went out and bought a laptop to use for presentations and health fairs. I found out about a 'work at home' expo near here that is looking for people to set up tables. Fantastic!

We also bought a new video camera. The old one was from the early '90's and loaded full size video tapes. It was also the size of a studio camera - well that is a slight exaggeration, but it really is about 9 pounds and twice the size of a shoe box. The new one can plug right into the computer and is 14 ounces with the battery and mini dv tape. It also, of course, fits in the palm of my hand. Handycam HC28 for anyone who wants to know, and comes with firewire capabilities - very much needed to edit and upload to the 'puter.
The point is, we are moving to Web 2.0 and it is going to drive our businesses to the next level. This blog is also a part of that web presence, so this isn't just for me sharing with the planet, but also part of the overall plan.

Enough for now. I need to get to work...

Metamorphosis

What does it take to move to the next level? We aren’t caterpillars literally waiting for some physical transformation to take place. We can’t wait for someone else to bring the change to us; we need to make the change within ourselves.

I am not talking about you necessarily, but talking about me as well. I keep buying the next book or course thinking that the missing piece is out there somewhere, or that my internal processes need just one more bit. But what if that really isn’t the case? I have more educational materials around my house that haven’t been finished than most people probably buy in a lifetime. Are the answers in there? No. The answers are in me. I know the things that I need to do. What is the real blockade that is stopping me? What internal struggle is taking place and how can I push myself over the edge?

I talk and write about making changes in your life, while I still need to make changes in mine. Is this surprising? Not really. Everyone I have met has room for improvement and life is constant change. I thought that getting my book published would be the thing that would take me over the top and really get me going. I made a mistake with that, but still have been blaming the publisher instead of myself. I should have looked into the practices of the publisher instead of rushing into a contract. I was so happy to have a contract that I didn’t look past the contract.

The secret to success in anything is marketing and that is one area I am lacking. I think the course Deb is taking in internet marketing may be the key to that aspect of our on-line businesses. If I write the holy grail of articles or a great novel, who is going to know about it without a solid marketing plan? If my USANA business is the great vehicle I believe it to be, how do I communicate that to the masses?

I am attracting the resources into my life that I need and getting out of my own way. The metamorphosis I need is to get me out of the cage I have built for myself. You may not be a Pink Floyd fan, but we all have a wall around us that we have built to make us feel comfortable and safe, but that wall is a prison we have constructed… and it is limiting our growth.

Ride

We are meeting at my younger brother's house for a ride to Harrisburg somewhere. There is a charity run for a fallen police officer, or something like that. it should be a couple hour ride. Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be really nice. Should be a good run with a few hundred motorcycles.

I just got my ElectraGlide tuned up and got new oil, so I am ready to go...

Twisted

Well, I twisted my ankle wicked bad two days ago. I cried. I thought my marathon quest was thwarted. I've been training for months to run next weekend and it looked bad, but today, very limited pain and pretty much total mobility. I can only attribute it to the supplements I am taking. Last time I did this, I was down for about a month and my ankle was still tender and swollen.
I already paid my entry fee and I am going to run. I will complete, whether it takes me all weekend. I will not go quietly into the night. I will persevere.

on other news fronts, things are buzzing along. I think we have about 4 new USANA associates in the pipeline for October, and new strategies for moving the businesses to new levels. Deb is busy with a new affiliate marketing program and that looks grand.

Preparation

The marathon is coming up soon. I had a calf injury of some sort and haven't run for two weeks. I think rest is the best medicine at this point. I know I can run the distance, it is just a matter of what my time is going to be. I am aiming for 4.5 hours, but will be happy if I am under 5. Actually just finishing will be a major victory.
I am continuing to take the Procosa 2 from USANA, along with the Essentials and the Omega3 oil. Without the supplements, I would not be able to run this distance.

Contest

Today is the first day for the "What is your dream?" competition. We are starting to use purchased leads and are totally dropping the fear factor. So what if someone says no to an opportunity that could turn their life around. There are over 6 billion people on the planet, all I need is another dozen to be financially free for the rest of my life. The odds are greatly in my favor.
my whY is bigger than my eXcuse Y>X
I will be replacing my old income within 60 days and buying a new car or I will be selling my Harley. How's that for a reason?

Inspiring

Well, we just returned from the International Convention for USANA Health Sciences in Salt Lake City... whew, what a great four days. There were so many inspirational speakers and regular people who have become independently wealthy through USANA - who knew? Two of my favorites were Tim Lewis, a minister who joined the "Million Dollar Club" this year (has earned over 1 million through USANA) and Lynne Allen-Johnson who has been a top earner for many years. Both were so touching from the stage. There were many tales of people who have been in for years and finally their families are accepting that the health and wealth of USANA is real.
On our personal side, we have vowed to make "Gold Director" by the end of October and "Ruby" by next convention. This will enable us to live the life we have dreamed of, donating large sums to charities and traveling around the world. Climbing Kilimanjaro is on the horizon and definitely we will be able to do that thanks to USANA.

Dr. Wentz was also totally awesome. His mission to bring health to the world is amazing. The Children's Hunger Fund donates 99 cents for every dollar given to them!! how cool is that? Hearing his words about health and nutrition gave me great pause to reflect on how much I take for granted. So many people suffer from malnutrition and go to bed hungry. I will continue to support this great cause.

book

I will be getting my first commission check for my book. Have you bought a copy yet? www.someoneelsestomorrow.com

Someone Else's Tomorrow is my first venture out of the world of e-books and into more "traditional" type publishing. Somewhat autobiographical, S.E.T. could be anyone's story. Have you ever wondered how you got stuck in your job? Have you thought about moving on, but just couldn't let go of the limited security that job gave you? What would happen if you found yourself cast out of your current life situation? Personal transformation is about chasing your dreams and following your bliss. This story tells of one man's self-discovery and the tools he uses to become a new person. As with any good allegory this can be read on different levels. It can be a quick fictional read, or a road map to starting the life you were meant to lead.

leaving on a jet plane

We're heading for Salt Lake City on Tuesday morning. Our flight leaves at 830 from Philly, so what time do we really have to be at the airport? I've only flown once or twice since 911. Which also happens to be my wife's birthday.
if we take the shuttle to the airport we have to meet it at 4am, 20 minutes from our house, so that means we would have to be up at around 3am (at the latest) to make the shuttle and get to to philly hours and hours early.
Nah, I think I'll drive and pay for a weeks parking at the airport. my car is not likely to attract attention, a '91 minivan, so it should be safe.

my runs are starting to really get time consuming and loooong. 16 miles today. I'm sort of dreading starting it, but the run itself will be great. I have to sit and stare at the computer for about 15 minutes after I wake up, before I run. That way any possible shit will start knocking at the door and I can go pre-run and not have to stop to dump. Fun reading here. Exit strategy... at least I have one, not like our clueless government. oops, sorry political statement there. I try to avoid that. (after 13 years in the military I can comment on war; I'm entitled, just like any citizen who votes)

Anyway, back to SLC, international convention for USANA, should be awesome. I am totally looking forward to it.

IRan

I ran 14 miles today. longest run of my life, and it mostly goes up from here. Sundays are my long run days. next week is 16 then 18 then back to 6 then 20, 14,14,10 and then the marathon 26.2 whew.
it's coming up quickly quickly quickly. Which isn't how I run. I am trying to keep the 10 minute mile pace, (6 miles per hour) and aiming at running a 4.5 hour marathon. today my run was just over two hours, so I am on track. Running distance is almost all in your head. Once you can run ten miles the rest of it is just a mental challenge. (and I am mental) : )

The USANA is still going strong. I am challenged to have a thousand dollar week next week and soon to have four of those in a row. have to work hard and get some great people under us. We have that in Cindy and Kerry, but the rest of our team is slow out of the blocks. I think they all can do well, but need some sharp pokes with a stick to get moving, or maybe a carrot dangling. I would think the money would be a pretty large carrot. Who wouldn't want to work for 100 hours, solid hard work, and then get paid big bucks the rest of their lives?
seems like a great exchange to me.
anyone interested, just call me and I'll explain the whole thing. It's not easy work, but it is simple. persistance pays off, sort of like training for my marathon.

Mentor

I've always believed that having a mentor can expedite any process and I have worked with them in the past. So in that vein, we've partnered up with the Enlightened Wealth Institute for a real estate mentor. Interesting process so far. We had an interview for about an hour and a half and one prerequisite is that we have to donate 10% of profits to charitable causes. That's the sort of mentoring application question that I like. We had that plan anyway, so it's good to know they are on board with our wishes. We will be personally mentored for sixteen weeks and then have a go to phone number for questions and stuff for another eight months.
This is cementing another stream of income for us. We are looking to have 10,000 per month income from real estate and I can see that happening somewhat quickly.

investing in real estate

Well, we are in the process of getting a mentor from EWI to guide us on our journey back into real estate investing. we are checking out the success stories on www.millionairehalloffame.com we did pretty well on our last two investment properties, but that was all on our own and conventional financing and we aren't in a great position for that.

my book sales are doing OK, hopefully that will pick up a little, and next month I get my first commission check, so that should be interesting. I am really curious as to how many books actually have sold. So far I am in the dark on that one.

yes

And the answer is...Yes. Yes I do have a book you can buy. As a matter of fact I have two. one on personal transformation, www.someoneelsestomorrow.com and one on how to evaluate and select stocks www.selectingvaluestocks.com

Hey I might as well plug them, as long as I am writing here as well. Most of my writing is done on my main website www.robertbritt.com
There are also a few **FREE** e-books on my site, written by myself, Joe Vitale and others. More will be added as I happen across writings of value that I can share freely.

That stuff is all free and some of it is pretty entertaining. I've been told I have a knack for writing and sometimes that shows. I hope some of the things I've written will touch and inspire people. My goal is to help people to reach their dreams. If I can help you, please let me know.
thanks

Following Your Dreams

We only have one shot at this, so don’t waste the one you’ve got. What are your dreams, and are you doing anything about attaining them?

I seriously began looking at my life – maybe it was an early midlife crisis of sorts – around age 37. I realized that what I was doing had nothing to do with what I had dreamed about as a younger man. But what could I do about it? A large step for me was getting my bachelor's degree from college at age 41. The degree brought forth a realization that with a goal in mind, you can do anything you set your mind to. I was told I was wasting my time pursuing that goal. I had a well-paying job at a steel mill. Why did I need to waste time on education?

My answer is that the most important asset any of us have is our mind, and as soon as we stop learning, we stop living. I am a life-long learner and will never stop my self education. For me, the attainment of my degree was a doorway to a new life. It wasn’t so much the degree itself but the belief in myself that it restored. After a time, I decided to really open the doors wide and seize life with both hands.

16 months ago when I told my manager I was giving two weeks’ notice, and I planned on making a living as a writer, it was the scariest moment of my life. I had spent 14 years climbing the corporate ladder and was almost halfway to retirement. When he asked if I was sure I knew what I was doing, I could only answer, “Not really.” I didn’t know what I was getting into and, to be honest, I still don’t. My days are an edventure. I didn’t misspell that. Every day is a marriage between education and adventure.

I finished writing my first novel, Someone Else’s Tomorrow – A Tale of Transformation, and the high I got from seeing it for sale on Amazon was like climbing Mount Everest and planting my flag. My edventure is continuing. Next year I have plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with my friend Werner Berger, who just returned from climbing Everest at the ripe young age of 69. It’s never too late to pursue your dreams, and you never know where they are going to lead you.

The most important things in life are investing in yourself and living the life you were meant to lead. Think about the things that make you happy or the dreams you had for your life when you were young and your thoughts weren’t limited by the naysayers and dream stealers. What is holding you back from chasing those dreams or living that life? You don’t have to quit your job or jump off a cliff. Maybe the education you need to do the things you dream of is available at college, tech school, art institute or the library. Maybe you just need to find a mentor or a master to apprentice with. Maybe you need a life coach to help guide you on your journey. Perhaps the spark you need can be found in an inspirational book.

I look back at the journey I have taken in the past year, and it makes me catch my breath. Is my destiny to be the writer I dreamt of in elementary school or is it to change the world? Or both? I don’t know. All I do know is the past year has been the most fantastic year of my life, and I think it is only going to get better from here on out. I’ve heard many times that when God closes a door he opens a window. I think when we decide to close our own doors; God opens the universe for us.

Enlightened Wealth Retreat

We just got back from the Enlightened Wealth Retreat in Washington DC. What a great four and a half days!
it is terrific to get among like minded entrepreneurial people. I met and talked to about 50 people in those days, got some great ideas from them and from the speakers. I also got to meet Robert Allen and Omar Periu. Robert is on my "20 people I want to meet" list ( www.robertbritt.com/20.htm ), so that was pretty cool. Hopefully in August I will actually get to have a conversation with him. We are going to Salt Lake City then, and he will be at that event as a guest rather than being a host, so he will (hopefully) be more accessible.
We also tried out for a reality show about real estate, and may be on TV soon. That will be a shift, having cameras at our house filming us. In light of that we are focusing on building a real estate portfolio.

addendum to last post

I sort of lost my train of thought on the last post. My point was that when someone joins a group, or is 'controlled' by a significant other, they may not really totally accept what is happening to them. But, if they start to treat others in the same fashion that they are being treated, it may be an attempt to justify what is being done to them and make them feel better about accepting what is being done to them or how they are being treated.

I will give two examples.
A woman is told to cover her face with a scarf. She doesn't like it, but does it, because she is told to do it. Secretly maybe she would like to remove the scarf. Another woman tries to tell her she is being manipulated and should remove the scarf. The first woman becomes defensive and tells the second woman SHE should be also wearing the scarf.

Is this in defense of the scarf? No. It is in defense of her own acceptance of the scarf. If she admits the other woman is correct, she is also admitting that she has allowed herself to submit, and that the person/authority who told her to submit is wrong. She ends up defending a situation she may not favor, because she does not want to face up to the fact that the authority figure is wrong and/or she doesn't want to confront that person.

Example 2
A woman is overweight and her husband "forces" her to diet and lose weight. She isn't thrilled to be coerced into losing weight, but is pleased actually to lose weight. The woman then starts getting on her friends and family members about losing weight. (Now, I totally support being fit, so don't take this as fat is fine.)
Prior to her own weight loss, she would not have been aggressive toward others regarding weight loss, but to justify her husbands behavior, she adopts it as her own. Otherwise she will have to face the fact that her husband's behavior may have slipped outside what is generally considered acceptable.

This could also be applied to churches that don't allow dancing or sleazy sales pitches. How many people have gotten into a mess and then brought their friends into the same mess? Their mental state has shifted where the lines of right and wrong, and good or bad become blurred.

I am not picking on religions or overweight people. Those are examples that are universal, and so make for easily transferable thought on how people justify behavior or act out of true character. There are so many factors on why we, in our human form, do what we do.
Is a persons attitude all about you? Mostly it is about them and what has gone on in their lives or maybe just from the event ten minutes prior to your arrival.

Justification

This is an observational post. When you are 'in love' with someone and they don't treat you right (and believe me, I am not talking about me and Deb) what do you do? Depending on the severity of the 'not right' treatment, you have options. If the treatment is abusive, in my eyes, you have one option only. Leaving.
In the case of slight verbal abuse or a person trying to remold you into their ideal, you can go along with it and see what develops. If they are successful in turning you into their ideal, you may buy into the whole process and become a new person. That might be a good thing, or it might not.

If you really buy into it, you may decide to convert other people in your life to the ideal person and they might not appreciate it, or have any desire to go to your place. It could really hurt them that you feel they are somehow not up to standards and need to change.

This could apply to religion. It could apply to the mania surrounding 'thin is in.'
It could apply to many things. It is something you should think about. Why do you want others to change? Is it truly for their own good, or is it because you think it's for their own good. Christians try to convert people so they will avoid hell and damnation, but that is only their belief and definition of the afterlife.

My youngest daughter has a perception of 'I need to lose weight' even though she is certainly a good weight for her height. Is that driven by fashion, friends or culture? Is the drive for 'skinny' killing people and causing massive widespread depression and feelings of doubt and low self esteem?
I think it is. I also think it is totally absurd. Be healthy, live healthy. Skinny does not equal beauty or health by any stretch of the imagination. (Truly being fat is also not healthy, although some folks do find it attractive.)

DC

Deb and I are heading down to Washington DC today for a Enlightened Wealth Retreat. It's a five day even with some of the finest educators/presenters in the areas of real estate, motivation, investing, wealth creation and public speaking; just to name a few of the subjects. Robert Allen, Harv Ecker and John Childers will be there, along with a special guest Werner Berger, age 70 and recently back from climbing Mt Everest.
So, it will be a great event, and I won't be posting until I return next Monday.

10 miles

How far is ten miles? In today's mobile society it doesn't seem very far. But try walking or running ten miles and suddenly you get a different perspective on it. How did people 100 years ago manage??? well, the simple answers are they didn't go far, or if they did, it took a long time and they usually never returned to their point of origin.

Speaking of point, what is the point here? I ran 10 miles today in my marathon quest. Farthest run I think I have ever had in my life. My bursitis is gone. My joint pain is gone. I am not even getting sore. I am totally amazed.

My challenge now is keeping hydrated on the runs. Up to ten miles, you can get by without water breaks; not that you should, but you can. At least I can, because I did, but I need to preset water out on the course. And most times I don't even know "the course." I need to get more organized or have a support team. any volunteers want to hand me water every other mile? : )

I am so happy and grateful now that my health is allowing me to pursue my marathon.

True Wealth, produced by USANA

pretty cool overview of the company

intro

Yes, I am in a transitional stage of my life. I have always felt that if you are not moving forward, you are stagnating. I've been through a few jobs. I spent 13 years in the military (active duty and reserves) and 14 years in a steel mill. I've been a single parent, and now head a blended family. I'm into music, theater, health and fitness.
I've been a runner since high school. Until recently I had to stop running due to bursitis in my left hip. I started taking a few supplements about three months ago, and now I am training for a marathon. I ran 9 miles last sunday with no pain. prior to the supps, I couldn't run two miles without paying for it in pain for a week. A dear friend was going to get knee surgery and I got her on the supplements and she no longer had her pain.
So, to make a long story short, I am in my third career now. I started it by writing a book on personal transformation, it's available on Amazon. Someone Else's Tomorrow. The next phase of this career is helping people become the thing that they always wanted to be. helping people to follow their bliss. Part of that is getting them healthy and wealthy. The next part is supporting them and guiding them (if they need it) Maybe I need to get into life coaching. I have a burning desire to help people, I have a degree in Psychology.Maybe that is the next step. In the meantime, you can visit RobertBritt.com to catch up on all my writing and buy my latest book, OK?
write me with and questions or comments...
thanks,

Looking for the right people

It's not that I don't want to talk to people who don't fit the profile, but it saves everyone time if I am selective. It takes a special kind of person to take the business and run with it. If they have drive, they can be taught, but if they think they can sit on their ass and I will build their business they are wrong.

I will, and do, support anyone who gets into the business with me. I am available 24/7 for phone support and with reasonable notice, I will do business presentations either at my place or any other place of their choosing.

When you find the right business model, you want your friends and family in first, and then you start the hunt for those people who know a good thing when they see it, and are willing to work. The get rich quick stuff never works, but the "get rich over a few years with some work" will bring in the cash. The advantage is that helping people to feel better and live better quality lives is great for repeat business.
